Rabbit Island is a physical representation of how the human body is limited by the confines of space and time and is in juxtaposition to the Statue of Time (located opposite easterly on the Main Boulevard), which symbolises how the human soul moves beyond these same confines. In addition to its allegorical meaning, Rabbit Island also act originally as a food store for the owners of Valsanzibio, as well as an aesthetic feature within the garden. Today it is considered to be one of just a handful of surviving examples of such a feature and is still home to several different breeds to rabbits.
